2017 Mid-Year Update

Thanks for checking in…

It’s been a busy few weeks since my last post. We had a successful LiveStrong Day in the Workplace where employees had the opportunity to use our new fitness center and help raise funds against Cancer. While the final numbers are still being calculated it was a great opportunity for folks to come out and try their hand at either the elliptical, bike or the treadmill. Every mile logged helped raised funds that go directly to helping cancer patients in their battle.

Our next event will be to attend the One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC) Lobby Day in Washington D.C. where we will have the opportunity to discuss with lawmakers how  important it is to continue full funding to the NIH who are so important to the cancer fight. With the recent President’s proposed budget recommending deep cuts to the NIH, Medicaid and other programs that go directly to helping the cancer fight and the cancer warriors. There will be much to talk about. I am encouraged by both sides of the aisle openly declaring that the President’s proposal is “dead on arrival”. However with the current political environment as it is, much of what is said publicly often changes when it comes time to voting one way or another. I promise to ensure that our Representatives hear the voices of those that have the most to lose if these funding cuts come to reality.

United in Grace continues to send Care Packages out to children and their families battling cancer. Each Care Package is filled with toys that help bring joy to the entire family while they undergo cancer treatment. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the continued support of our followers and supporters in our local communities as well as those that support us through our on-line donations. We are currently planning for the September GO GOLD campaign as well as the 2017 Wes’ Wish Toy Drive where we will once again help bring joy to children and their families battling cancer.
